8 More School Days 'til Christmas Vacation!

And I can't freakin' WAIT!!!

Tonight was our Christmas concert at school. The teachers sang "Away in a Manger" and "The Christmas Song." It was fun. And it gave me a good idea for a Top 5. BUT, since my own blog is in need of an update, my Top 5 Christmas songs will be seen in Randomnimnity instead of on Cinco de Piddy. (Sorry T! I'll do a guest-post soon, I promise!)

So, without further ado,

Libby's Top 5 Favorite Christmas Carols:

5) Feliz Navidad
4) Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer
3) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
2) Away in a Manger
1) O Holy Night

Those Magic Moments...

Okay. Being a teacher, there are just some small, tender moments of time that just make you smile. The first week of my first year teaching, the word "attitude" was on our spelling list. The kids had to write sentences with their spelling words, and one very special boy wrote the following sentence:

Attitude is on a map.

Now. I decided at that point that when I write my best-selling memoir one day, the title of it is going to be "Attitude Is On A Map." Because even though he completely got it confused with "latitude," what he did say can be very philosophical when you really think about it.

Well. Other cute and funny things have been said by many more of my students in the 2.5 years that have passed since "Attitude is on a map." However, none quite up to those standards.

Until today.

So, my kids were playing a "game" where they had cards with different resources written on them, and they had to sort them into natural, capital, or human resources. One of the cards said "water." Well, one boy who had struggled early in the game was finally starting to catch on and "get it." So when he saw "water," he said "natural." And as I was praising him, he continued...

"Because water comes from a cactus, and a cactus is in nature, so it's natural."

And that's why I go to work every day. :-D

The New 'Do

This picture was taken today, post-haircut

This picture was taken about two weeks ago--obviously pre-haircut

Okay...maybe I did go a tad bit shorter than I had originally planned...BUT I'm likin' it!

And then I found five dollars...

Save the Cheerleader, save the world. Between Heroes and Monday Night Football, my husband is paying absolutely no attention to me right now. Which is good, I guess, because it's been long enough since I've written a new entry. Also, I've hit a Facebook slum. Don't really know why...I guess because everyone who is still in college has midterms, finals, or big pre-Thanksgiving holidays projects to finish. That, or, I just have no life and spend too much time on there. SO...I've decided that since Facebook has taken most of my blogging time away, that it's time to re-introduce some balance into my life. I know that TOPolk and Nick Owens will be mighty proud.

So, let's get started. First of all, I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow. Have no idea how short or what style, but I know I'm going "skimming the top of the shoulder" length (or a little shorter) because I like to sleep too much to get up 30 minutes earlier than I have to just to dry my hair out straight. And the last time I got it cut, the chick just kind of cut it...she didn't texture it or make sure the chunks were even or anything like that. (If you're a girl, you know what I mean.) It just has no "style." And I'm sick of just letting it go wet and curly. I want something that looks like I actually woke up early enough to fix it, when in actuality, all I had to do was wash and blow-dry. See...over the years I've had many a fight with my naturally-curly-will-never-dry-straight-without-persuasion-from-a-roundbrush-at-one-time-was-a-working-barometer hair, but I will say one good thing about it: it has enough natural body and volume when it's short enough to look as if I've actually styled it even when all I've done is blow-dried it. So...I'm game for a change. Don't worry...I'm not gonna go super-mom short quite yet. I just can't bear to part with a pony-tail for now.

Okay, my readers of the male persuasion can start reading again.

I just have to say how much I love my friends.

Terence gets me. He just does. We had the same exact childhood. Movie, TV show, and toy-wise, that is. We were reminiscing the other day (as we always do) about all the fun toys we always wanted but never had AND about how nowadays they're "recycling" our old toys again into "new" toys for the kids of today's generation. We were talking specifically about something which has escaped my memory for the time being, but it reminded me of how I had recently thought that TJ Bearytales was the "new" Teddy Ruxpin. I told Terence of my dreams to always own a Teddy Ruxpin and how that was like the ONE toy that I asked for for like 3 Christmases/birthdays in a row, but I never got. (I did get some Mother Goose/Hector combo, though, that was not quite as cool as TR and Grubby, but at least I was the only kid I ever knew to have the story-telling geese.) ANYWHO, Shay and I were at Wal-mart tonight, and I was walking through the toy section looking for a stuffed lion for our Lions Club meeting, and I saw TJ Bearytales. Well, I just kind of saw and moved on, but as I perused the remaining toy isles, I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw.....

A FREAKING TEDDY RUXPIN DOLL!!! They brought the REAL thing BACK!!!! At first I thought that I was dreaming because he was the only one, and he was clearly in the wrong place, but after 4 more minutes of frantically searching the entire toy department, I found where the rest of them were!! I can't freakin' believe it!!!

So yeah...I know what's being added to my Dear Santa letter this year.

Jen knows when to ask me out on a date. Here I am stuck in my house all day yesterday choosing to bum it out and not do the laundry/cleaning that desperately needs to be done, and here comes the friendly little "brrrr-ling" of IM. Jen wanted to come to eat in Greenville in hopes that I would be able to come meet her! It was quite a treat after the very low-key weekend I had had. My weekend woke up on the wrong side of the bed, starting with a busy, rough, and exhausting day at school on Friday, but Jen helped end the weekend on an awesome note. Our Japanese dinner was the perfect way to put my weekend to bed on a super-plush featherbed and start my week off right. Thanks, Jen! I love you!

And Weston. Dear, dear Weston. My wonderful brother-in-law, Weston. Homeboy called during the NC State game (to which I actually had a ticket, but decided not to go) and could sense that I was kind of down. Although I really had had an exhausting Friday, and was still kind of down on Saturday morning, I really did not think that I portrayed that over the phone. Well, he was apparently very in tune to my demeanor, and called me back later that night to make sure I was okay!! I can't tell you how much that meant to me. I'm telling you, I have the best friends ever!!

One final note...I fell in love with Breaking Point yesterday. I was ironing my curtains (which we finally hung yesterday after having them for 2 months, btw), and "Goodbye to You" came on Shay's computer. The lyrics just hit me and really struck a chord in my heart. I had to know immediately who the band was and what the song was. It's about finally letting go, and I've certainly had to conquer those same feelings on a few different occasions in my life. Anyway, Weston told me that if I liked that song, I should listen to the whole CD, so Shay burned it for me, and it's in my car waiting for the drive to Greenwood and back tomorrow. I can't wait to hear the rest of their stuff!

That's it for today! Until next time...

Peace out, Homeslices!

Honey...I'm home!

I know. Wow.

Don't worry, I didn't die.
I just got married, that's all. ;)

So...this Saturday will mark 4 weeks from the wedding. I've been married a month, Shay and I haven't killed each other, all is well, and all bodes well for the future! :-D

Our honeymoon in San Francisco was so fun...the excursion to Lake Tahoe was AMAZING...and I gained 5 lbs. due to the massive amounts of Ghirardelli chocolate I consumed. But it was WORTH IT! (And it really was only like 1 lb., and it's already gone again!--it's amazing what actually cooking and eating at home can do to your eating habits.)

So I'm morphing into a housewife. I cook. I clean. I do laundry. It's absolutely amazing. I'm just a string of pearls and a pair of heels short of becoming Donna Reed. Or June Cleaver. Or Laura Petry. Or the 1950's housewife of your choice. But I'll tell ya...it's really because I generally have nothing else to do all day since it's summertime and the hubby isn't also a teacher. Once school starts, I'm quite sure I won't be as on top of things household-wise. But don't tell Shay. ;)

AND NOW FOR THE EXCITING NEWS:

Shay and I close on our house TOMORROW at 1:00PM!! :-D WOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO!! I am unbeLIEVEably excited. We went today and did the final walk-through to make sure everything was still in the condition as per the contract, and everything was! Without the sellers' furniture in there, though, we realized exactly how much more painting we're going to have to do than we previously thought. I've never really painted before, so I guess it's good that I'm a fast learner, huh?!

K well, now that Nick Owens has picked himself up off of the floor, I'm gonna go. Sorry so short this time. Maybe by the time school starts, and things with the house have calmed down, I'll write more often. Besides, by then I'll be back to my whole "I'm really supposed to be grading papers and writing lesson plans, but I'll think I'll blog to procrastinate further" routine.

Later, Homeslices.

Okay. Been busy. Please forgive me. BUT, here's the timeline for the next month or so. So, I'm sorry Nick Owens, but I wouldn't count on another update until late June/well into July.

Tomorrow, May 19: Field Day :-D, then leaving for ATL

Monday, May 22: Day 2 of field trip in Myrtle Beach

Tuesday, May 23: Pulling out my hair and banging my head against a bus window contemplating busjacking the bus and driving 120 mph just to get me home and done with the field trip to myrtle beach with 35 fifth graders who are all officially sick of each other after 3 days and 2 nights of constant companionship (whose idea was a 2 night trip?); softball game

Wednesday, May 24: HALF DAY!! Continue getting room ready, apply for marriage license, find a veil? and a headpiece/tiara?

Thursday, May 25: HALF DAY, AWARDS DAY, LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS!!!! Last softball game.

Monday, June 5-Monday, June 12: HONEYMOON IN SAN FRANCISCO!!

Tuesday, June 13-Wednesday, June 21: Change my name on, um, EVERYTHING; look for a house; morph into a housewife that actually cooks and cleans *GASP*; lay out by the pool a LOT

Monday, June 26: dentist appointment in Laurens :-D

Tuesday, June 27: breathe; start accepting phone calls again (just kidding!)

BUT...no matter what's going on when...please don't hesitate to call me up. June 3-12 is definitely not a good time frame (hehe), BUT I can't make it through such a busy month without my friends!! Don't treat me like I've fallen off the face of the planet just because I'm getting married or just because I don't blog for another month and a half *ahem, nick owens*

I have to say, though...since Mandy has left the blog world, my heart just hasn't been in it!

Back By Popular Demand...

Hey, Guys and Gals!! Sorry it's been so long. Terence has threatened to disown me like we disowned Eric, and Nick even tracked me down on Facebook!! Well, I'm here. Have been all along, but really didn't have too much to say. Well, I've probably had plenty to say, but not enough time in which to say it.

My spring break I guess has officially ended. Or, it will at 5:30 AM when I have to wake up to get ready to go to school. I've only been off a week, but I feel like it's been 3 or 4, and I would still like 1 or 2 more!! I guess I miss my kids a little, but I've REALLY enjoyed the whole "relaxing" thing. One really awesome thing though...only 3 more weeks of instruction before PACT starts. Then 2 weeks of PACT, then our 5th grade field trip to Myrtle Beach, then the last week of school!! That's right kids...the final 6 weeks commence mañana. I'm excited, but wow. That means there are only 7 weeks until mine and Shay's wedding!! Eeeeek!! That's definitely a good Eeeeek, but a "I've got SO much crap to do before then" Eeeeek, too!

BUT, another bright side of things: we don't have to turn in "real" lesson plans for the rest of the year, and all we have to turn in for the next 3 weeks is a rough outline of topics of review each day/week. (These next 3 weeks are called our "PACT Push.") AND...guess what?! (drum roll, please..........................) I'VE ALREADY OUTLINED ALL THREE WEEKS AND WILL TURN THEM IN TOMORROW AND THEN THAT IS THE END OF LESSON PLANS FOR ME ALLLLLLL YEAR!!! Way to go ME!!! I'm unbelievably proud of myself, as you should be, because that means that all following weekends will not be plagued by the dread of doing lesson plans on Sunday nights! Wooooooo-Hooooooooooo!

However...I do have 6 weeks worth of grading to do tomorrow night and Tuesday so that my grades for the 5th 6 weeks are in the computer on time by Wednesday afternoon. So...fear not, loyal fans...my procrastinatory tendencies have not left my being. But I'm not worried about it...it'll get done. It always does.

Last thing before I leave tonight...Chris and Carrie are getting married on Saturday!!! I cannot WAIT until their wedding!! It will be beautiful and fun and exciting!! Yay!!

Hi, Chelsea!

This message is for Chelsea Henley. AKA The Future Mrs. "E." (I don't know E's last name!)

Neely and I went to visit good ol' Chels the other day...for I had not seen her in, literally, years, AND I had not yet gotten to meet her precious baby boy...and she tells me:

"Libby. I have your screenname and I've been like totally keeping up with your life." I was like, "CHELSEA!! WHY DON'T YOU MESSAGE ME?!?! Do you read my blog and stuff, too?!" She (of course) said yes, and then Neely said, "Yeah...Chelsea keeps me up to date on all your stuff." (Neely's my cousin, by the by.)

Chelsea's reason for not IMing me was her fear that I would think she had nothing better to do all day than sit and read profiles and away messages and blogs and such. Well, I was like, LOOK. You are talking to the QUEEN of sitting at a computer and wasting time. (Can I get some AMENs Shay and T?!)

SO, Chels, this blog post is for you. Enjoy all the free time you have, because once Jalen starts walking, you won't ever get a chance to sit down!!

The Johari Desert

Since I think Terence's whole Johari's window thing was really cool, I definitely decided that I'd see what other peoples' perceptions of me are...

Have fun! (Then do your own...I like picking out other peoples' personality traits, too!)

The Sausage Biscuit

The Sausage Biscuit or the Biscuit Sausage?!? Either way, it freakin' rocks my face off. Now...before you go "WTF?!" and think that it's something perverted, just chill, get your mind out of the gutter, and listen to the radio every now and then. You'll hear what I'm alluding to. And it's freakin' great. Right up my alley when it comes to humor. Let me know when you know what I'm talking about. RL already knows what's up!! (But please don't post any specifics under comments, because I want everyone to hear it first for themselves on the radio. But now I'm hyping it up, so it probably won't be near as funny as I'd like it to be for you. So yeah.)

ANYWAY...
American Idol is in full gear!! Audience now gets to vote. The girls put on a really good show tonight for it to be the first night. I cannot WAIT for the guys tomorrow night, though!! I'm pulling for Will, Taylor, Ace, Chris, and Elliot. Those are, by far, my fave 5 guys right now. By the by...Chris Daughtry reminds me of Stevo and Elliot reminds me of Justin Harris. So if any of you know those Kool Krazy Kats, take a gander at the similarities, k?!

So far, though, I really like the cast as a whole. Since those really annoying felon twins (who, by the way, were arrested on charges in Rockdale County, Georgia--definitely my homecounty) were disqualified, all is well on the Idol front. There's ONE girl who I'm not too sure of, though...Brenna Gethers. Her singing is alright, I guess, but I'm just not too keen on her personality. I did like her a lot more tonight than I did after her Hollywood performance, but still. Her attitude is just a little too reminiscent of one of my fifth graders whose attitude is BAD, and it drives me crazy that Simon is encouraging it and that (I'm sure) many Americans are embracing it. I just don't think that it's such a good example to set. I don't know...I'd probably think she was pretty cool and cute and spunky if I weren't a teacher with a conscience who doesn't want to see our society's children get ruined by bad influences on TV. But whatever. At least she's better than that fat idiot wife-beating Scott who was a complete sketchball black-boy wanna-be who should never have made it into the Top 11. Yeah. I didn't like him. FOREVER CONSTANTINE!!

/steps off soapbox. (Hi, T!)

In other news...flowers and cake are picked out! Planning a wedding is a never-ending process. I will be so glad when June 3 is over with and I'm relaxin' w/ my new hubby somewhere on our honeymoon! Speaking of which (ahem, SHAY), we still don't know exactly where we're going yet. But I hope it's secluded, fun, and relaxing. :-D

Nana got me some fried okra for supper tonight. It was so delicious! Mos' def' one of my absolute favorite foods ever in the history of the world. Of course, I like a lot of foods, so that's not saying much. But it would be in my top 5. *Attn: Terence Polk. Future Top 5 for Cinco from Guest Contributor, Libby*

Oh, AND, while at BiLo tonight w/ Bailes, I decided...hey. I'm going to buy some gum or some mints or something. Well...Wrigley's has these new Doublemint mints out. You can get either Spearmint or Peppermint, but I chose Spearmint. (Peppermint flavored things are too candy-like and sweet, and I feel they don't freshen as well as other mint flavors.) They are SO delish!! They're not too strong, but not too weak, either. The mint doesn't burn your tongue at all. Definitely a must-try.

And lastly...I've been asking Shay for a month now when I can make my bracket. I think he's finally getting to the point where he'll just start ingoring me. He knows I know I have to wait until March, but I'm just so excited, I can't WAIT! And I have Hank Burns and Erin Hines to thank for that! Because of their love of March Madness, they have gotten me hooked on making my picks for the tournament each year. This will be the fourth year I'm going to pick Gonzaga as going all the way. (And yes, it's only because they have the coolest name.) BUT, according to the sports people, this year, it may actually happen!! We'll just have to see!!

Well, that's all for this evening. The clock is striking 11:00 PM, which means that all the good little teachers must be in bed, or they'll turn into pumpkins. Which means I'm actually already a whole damn pumpkin patch, but that's besides the point. I'll remain human tonight!!

Sweet Dreams, Homeslices!!

Retakes

This is the first year ever that I've ever had a picture retaken. This "new" picture is better because it looks more 23-year-old (as opposed to 40-year-old), and my hair doesn't have one big piece totally out of line with the rest of my hair. HOWEVER, I'm not a student, I am a teacher, and the first one (that can be found somewhere in my archives, but it's too late and too past my bedtime to figure out how to link to an old post) looks more professional. I have on a blazer, I'm wearing make-up, and my hair is smoother. However, all-in-all, I'm glad I have both. Because now I have one set of "professional" shots that I could use for anything I might need professional shots for. But I also have more "me" shots that I can give out to all of my friends....

Yeah. You're right, and I agree.

I don't think I'll ever grow up, either.

Yeah, I Know. Sorry.

A Note to my Readers:

I'm sorry I've not updated in a while. Whenever I've been "blogging," I've mostly spent my time just reading other blogs. And looking at photo albums on Facebook. Most of my additions to the blogworld have come in the form of comments or guest posts (see Cinco De Piddy--link to the right). But just a few updates:

1) The Wax Museum at school today was a HIT!! I even got an "I'm proud of you" note from my principal!! Always a confidence booster!!

2) Ordered my dress and my bridesmaid dresses over this past weekend!! SO gorgeous...I can't wait until they come in! Next on the agenda: confirming a photographer, deciding what food to serve at the reception, ordering invitations and announcements, and picking out the guys' clothes. Oh yeah, and finishing registering.

3) LOST was a re-run tonight. Way to suck, ABC.

4) There's a precious 16-year-old who made it to Hollywood on Idol tonight. He looks like Fred Savage! :-D

5) I've got a new TV love...Project Runway. Taped at Parsons School of Design (where my cousin Austin goes to school!!) Am totally in love with Daniel's designs. He's definitely my favorite. I liked Chloe's alot tonight, too, though. But Daniel is the best. I predict that he wins it all.

6) Weston is so precious. He'll be the coolest brother-in-law ever. Actually, he'll be my only brother-in-law. Unless my brother turns out to be gay. Which would be cool with me, but I don't think that's the case.

7) Been going to step aerobics at the Y. She kicked my ass last night. But it feels good. And I love going to the Y, anyway, because I know, like, half of the people there. I love knowing people and people knowing me. Small towns are where it's at. Except that you have to make plans ahead of time to run to Target or Wal-mart or something. And being a teacher and granddaughter of Joan McNeill, you can't exactly frequent certain establishments in town. (All 2 of them.) But despite that, you can't beat the sense of community and the gorgeous old houses. And the commute. The commute is great.

8) VERY busy week next week: Tuesday--Special Ed. staffing after school and Lions Club Meeting that night; Wednesday--BON JOVI CONCERT IN G'VEGAS; Thursday--Get-together with my teacher girls from last year at the MD; Friday--Firewall with Lisa and possibly Last Man Standing in Clemson; Saturday--10 bucks Shay and I will be doing wedding stuff.

9) I'm afraid I'm getting sick. :( Don't feel bad, but I'm not so sure my throat's not starting to hurt. And Bailey had Strep last week. All I know is...if this gets worse, and I start running a fever...I'm leaving school early and getting the daggum shot. Hopefully, my mind's just playing tricks on me since I know Bailey had it.

10) Meredith, Mike, Shay, and I are going to see HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH on Sat., April 28!! I'm just all about some concerts this year, huh?! BTW--pKyle, I don't know if you've heard, but they cancelled Music Midtown this year. The commissioner or whoever said that Atlanta was not a good venue for the event. They're looking to move it, in which case they'll have to rename it.

K, I hope that satisfies your appetite for the rambling that is Libby for now.
Peace out, homeslices.

PS- 11) Shay and Lisa are too obsessed with Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Number 1 in the 'hood, G!

Viva Las Vegas!

Okay, so. Planning a wedding in less than six months when the wedding is 4 hours away from your current residence kind of sucks. Especially when your parents are divorced, your mom wants you to have what you want but can't afford extravagant, and your dad is being a butthole because he's male and doesn't understand. Add that to the fact that your fiancé is also male and doesn't like a lot of attention, and to the fact that your own personality is a tad high-strung, and you get a walking time-bomb of a bride-to-be. Now, I'm not gonna go all bridezilla on the asses of everyone involved in this wedding, but it's getting to be much more stressful than I thought it would be. So unfortunately, my dear, patient Shay and my sweet and wonderful mother are taking the brunt of this.

AND, unless I'm at school, working on school stuff, or sleeping, my brain is constantly on the whole wedding planning thing. So needless to say, I don't find much time to sit and write on the blog, and I apologize to my avid readers. But, I also don't want my blog to turn into my whole wedding planning diary, because frankly, a lot of you will enjoy the event, but probably don't care two bits about the planning process.

So anyway, I'll try to keep the planning details to myself, Shay, my family, and my bridal party. BUT, I did feel like I had to vent about how frustrated I've been. It's totally a rollercoaster of emotions.

But I will tell you this....if Shay and I are to completely fall off of the face of the earth for a long weekend, you can bet 'fiddy' bucks that we've run off to get married!!

I'm a "Snow Jam Baby!"

Today is my birthday!! I am 24 years old!! The weather is pretty sucky...was that way last year, too. BUT, at least there are no tornadoes tearing through the county this year!!

My dad and my grandma say I'm just destined to have bad weather on my birthday, though, because I was born during a snow storm. They called it the Snow Jam of '82 in ATL.

But anyway, thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes today! I appreciate them all! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!

Productivity

Can I just tell you how productive I have been today? It's almost not even funny.

First of all, I got my report cards done in time to pass them out today. And unless you work at Joanna-Woodson Elementary, you do not know the profundity of that statement. Let's just say it's a hard feat...especially when you don't get your report cards until after 11 AM (which happens to fall AFTER my planning period), and you still have to look through all of them to confirm grades, write down honor roll students, and stuff them in the envelopes. PLUS, you have to fill out a freakin' certificate for ALL of the honor roll students, stamp them with the principal's signature stamp, AND stamp a free admission ticket to a PC basketball game w/ the same stamp for each honor roll student. ALL of this WHILE STILL HAVING TO TEACH YOUR FULL LESSON PLANS!!

BUT...I got it done. My kids had a lot of independent work today. ;)

ALSO, I finished my rubric which I need for tomorrow, gave my list of topics to the librarian so she can pull the books we need for research tomorrow, AND took care of a student transfer.

PLUS, I even had to finish aforementioned lesson plans before 3:00 PM today!

NOT ONLY THAT, but I WALKED to the YMCA, rode the stationary bike for 10 minutes, walked/ran on the treadmill for 35 minutes, and then WALKED back home. (From the Y to my house, it is approximately 1 mile. Therefore, I walked the equivalent of 4 miles today and biked the equivalent of 2 miles. That's a lot of damn miles.)

OH BUT WAIT...I also went to Wal-Mart to buy supplies to make research folders, and sat down and made 13 out of the 20 I need for tomorrow. :-D The only reason I stopped is because A) I can ACTUALLY get to bed at 11:00 PM (my "normal" bedtime), and B) I ran out of tape. I have to finish tomorrow with my tape at school.

So yeah. Talk about one little productive biatch over here. Most of you who really know me ought to be damn proud!!

Oh, and PS--I had my mid-year evaluation conference with my principal this year (since I'm going through TEAM, and all) and I passed ALL 10 of the performance dimensions in ADEPT for first semester!! GO ME!!

FIRST POST OF THE NEW YEAR

Okay, so I admit it. My 50th post wasn't all that grand. But hey. I tried. It was better than Eric's 50th post. (Did you get the tongue-in-cheek-ness of that one?!)

But anyway, I'm going to be very random with this post. I have a few things I need to mention, but no one thing that I can elaborate on for very long. K, here goes.

My New Year's Resolution:
I will be at school every day between my self-set hours of 7:20 AM and 4:00 PM. I will use my planning and before and after school time wisely and work ahead. I will not talk myself into leaving before 4:00 PM, but when I do leave, I will take nothing home with me. I want to leave school work at school and enjoy my life during my home time.

On an unrelated, yet slightly similar note...we've set a date!! Shay and I will be getting married on June 3, 2006. Less than 5 months away!! It's, like, totally crazy--but I can't wait!! It will be a 6:00 PM ceremony on the beach, barefoot in the sand! It's going to be great!! (BTW--here's a picture his mom took of us at our wedding site when we went to check it out!)

With that said, I have made it a personal goal of mine to do the stereotypical thing and get into (hopefully a lot) better shape before the wedding! However, I had made this decision before the new year, so this is NOT my New Year's Resolution. Because I HATE it when people make that their resolution. Because we all know that lasts approximately 3.5 days, and then they give up, and spend the next 362.5 days in the year (or 363.5 days if it's a leap year) whining that they're too fat and that "next year, they'll really stick to it." The problem with that is, though, that they really have no motivation, other than the fact that the turn of the new year is like turning over a new leaf.

Well, I'm thinking of my "new leaf" as being turned over when I start my new life with Shay in June. And that really IS motivation to get into shape. Because I'm pretty sure we're going to Hawaii for our honeymoon, and I'm really sure I want to be able to wear a real two-piece bikini while we're there. (Not to mention the fact that I don't want to look like a beached beluga in my white dress...) I know it can be done!! Oh, and to show how dedicated I am to the process...I joined the Y yesterday!! AND THE TREADMILLS HAVE INDIVIDUAL TVS BUILT INTO THEM!!! That's what rocked my face off so when I used the treadmills at Fike. I can stay on those things for a full hour of Friends no sweat! (Well. With sweat. It would defeat the purpose otherwise.) So yeah, I'm stoked. Jane's been a member, and Taffi joined, too, so now I even have work-out partners!! :-D Yay for getting healthy!!

BUT THE BEST THING OF ALL ABOUT JANUARY IS...................

....drum roll, please........

MY BIRTHDAY IS NEXT FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!! :-D

Now, I LOVE my birthday (and most of my friends will say that's an understatement), but I'm kind of anxious about this one. My birthday has only fallen on a Friday twice before in my life. The first time, I turned 7. I had the chicken pox. The next time, I turned 13. Three days later, my dad moved out. So yeah. Whenever my birthday's been on a Friday, I haven't had that great of luck. I really hope I'm not jinxing myself for this year thinking that something bad is going to happen again. BUT, 7 and 13 are both superstitious numbers, too, but 24 is not. So maybe I'll be okay.

But just to be on the safe side, wear a helmet on Friday, woulda ya?!

PS--On Saturday night the 14th, I will be celebrating my birthday with friends in Greenville, SC. Don't know exact time, place, or location, but if you're in the area, please come out and join in on the fun.

PPS--Okay, Terence, are you satisfied?! :-D
